The risk perception test is a compulsory part for those who wish to obtain a driving licence B in Belgium. In this test, you must quickly and accurately identify hazards in realistic traffic situations.
The risk perception test is part of the practical exam for the B driving license in Belgium.
With this test, the aim is to assess how well you recognize risks in traffic. It is not about knowledge of traffic rules, but about insight, reaction ability, and attentiveness.
You will watch five short traffic videos of approximately thirty seconds each. After each video, you will be asked “What did you see?” with four answer options. There can be multiple correct answers. You have fifteen seconds to answer before the next video starts.
How does the scoring work?
The test uses a system with score correction. That means:
Correct answer clicked = +1 point
Incorrect answer clicked = –1 point
No clicks = 0 points
Tip: don’t just guess. Incorrect answers lower your score. Only click what you have really seen. Your total score will be converted to 10 points. You pass if you achieve at least 6 out of 10.
Why does the risk perception test exist?
The risk perception test evaluates your ability to recognize danger before it’s too late. In real traffic, it is crucial that you:
notice in time that a pedestrian wants to cross,
anticipate a car that suddenly brakes,
or react to a cyclist coming from a side street.
In other words: the test shows how safely and consciously you drive.
When should you take the risk perception test?
You take the risk perception test after your theory exam and before your practical exam with the examiner.
You must pass the test to proceed to the practical part.
The test is organized in the GOCA exam centres.
You can book online via their website and take the test in Dutch, French, or German.
